Watercolor Monotype with Chine Collé
September 15 – 17, 2022 10am – 4pm

Explore the Sitka grounds, discovering patterns in the natural environment and creating sketches that will be the inspiration for a series of Chine Collé papers, a technique in which rice paper is adhered to a heavier support paper during the printing process. Back in the studio, sketches are transferred to Kozo paper with Micron pens and other tools, and drawing guides are created on the back of prepared Plexiglas plates. Next, we paint on the Plexi plates using watercolor paints and pencils, building translucent layers and allowing the plates to dry. Using wheat paste as glue, the painted plate and Chine Collé paper are printed together onto dampened Stonehenge paper with the press.

Sitka Center for Art and Ecology is located just north of Lincoln City on the beautiful Oregon Coast. Call the Sitka office or visit their website for more information and to register.

The Pochoir Monotype Method
May 7 and 8, 2022 10am – 3pm*

Monotype printmaking is an immediate and versatile process. The pochoir method, using stencils cut from card stock, is especially spontaneous. Stencils are inked in solid colors and layered face up on an inked Plexiglas plate. This first print is quite graphic with bold shapes and colors. Next the stencils are removed from the plate, turned over and again layered on the ghost ink remaining on the plate. This is when the magic begins – with unpredictable patterns emerging as a result of the layering process. The flipping, layering and reprinting continues – with each new print a bit more subtle than the previous one.

Visit WhitPrint Events for workshop details and to enroll.

Trace Monotype
August 5 + 6, 2021 1:00am-4:00 pm *

This hand-pulled printmaking process beautifully captures expressive drawing styles. After inking a plexiglass plate with a dark color, paper is placed on top of the inked plate and an image is drawn on the back of the paper. The paper is then lifted to reveal a print with an intriguing combination of line and tonal qualities. Trace monotypes are ideal papers for collage, and this is a great opportunity to build on your collection. Some materials are provided, additional supply list will be provided upon registration.

Visit Catlin Gabel Community Programs for details and to enroll.
